The experience
In theory, we all want to be nice. In practice, many things get in the way: fatigue, anger, bitterness. But a lack of kindness is at the heart of so much going wrong at work, in friendships, and in love.
These kindness cards are designed to bring out our best nature. They present us with a series of thoughts that nourish our sympathy, our powers of compassion and our appetite for forgiveness. They bring us back to what we always want to be and are already deep inside us: good people.
With illustrations by Erin Campbell, the design emphasizes the virtue of all things soft and warm. Colored with hues of peach, lilac, and cornflower, they lend confidence and prestige to the kinder, gentler sides of ourselves.
Some examples...
« The kind person gives generously with the feeling that he, too, will need kindness. Not now, not because of this, but in another realm. She knows that self-righteousness is only the result of a failing memory: an inability to keep in mind, when she is really good and totally right, how many times she has been profoundly and definitively wrong. .”
« A fundamental path to staying kind to people is the power to cling, even in very difficult situations, to a distinction between what someone is doing and what they wanted to do. »
« The modern world is very uncomfortable with the idea that a good person is not successful. We'd rather say she was no good than embrace a much more disturbing and less publicized thought: that the world is very unfair. Kind people always keep in mind the notion of injustice. »
Usage
Randomly read the cards to evoke your best you, always hidden behind the scenes. Keep cards handy, on a desk or fridge, as a constant reminder to be gentle.
Offer one to a friend or loved one to thank them for their kindness (or gently remind them to be so).
The ritual
At SELV, we want to promote kindness. Be gentle with yourself and others. The world we live in can sometimes be exhausting, frustrating, sad... But with tools that make us feel good, we can become the best version of ourselves every day.
